Dawn Chorus walk at Foxholes Nature Reserve followed by breakfast at the cafe
The dawn chorus is truly spectacular at this time of year - a magical symphony of song performed by birds looking for love and defending their territory. Bruern Farms and Wild About The Wychwoods are very excited to be teaming up to bring you this special event - a Dawn Chorus Walk at nearby Foxholes Nature Reserve followed by a well-deserved breakfast at Bruern Farms Cafe.
When?
Saturday 3rd May. Meet in the car park at Bruern Farms Café, OX7 6QE at 4.45am for a 5am departure. The loos will be open! We return to the Cafe at about 7am for breakfast.
Cost?
£10 for adults and £8 for children under 12. This includes breakfast with a choice of bacon, sausage or egg bap plus tea or filter coffee for adults. (Note: the kitchen won’t be properly open at this time so no other food will be available).
Because of the expected demand, booking is absolutely essential and will close on 30th April.
What?
The walk will be led by Wild About The Wychwoods’ keen birdwatcher Robin (yes really!) Parsons who will be able to give us lots of information on what we’ll be hearing and answer any questions. We’re expecting a high demand so we may run 2 groups of 20 people each.
How long will it last?
The walk will be about 2 hours but it will be at a slow pace with lots of stops along the way to just stand and listen.
Who’s it for?
Anyone who’s wanted to find out more about the dawn chorus but couldn’t quite bring themselves to get up quite so early on their own! We’d love to see families coming along although you’ll have to be fairly quiet! For this reason we can’t include dogs.
What should I wear/bring?
We’ll be walking across the fields to Foxholes Nature Reserve so sturdy footwear is essential and a torch will be useful as it will still be dark first thing. You can bring binoculars if you have them although we’ll be using our ears more than our eyes! Unless it’s raining heavily the walk will go ahead so bring rain gear and warm clothes as necessary.
Accessibility
Unfortunately, this isn’t an accessible event as the terrain is going to be quite uneven underfoot so unsuitable for wheelchairs/buggies or those who have difficulty walking.
Disclaimer
You’ll be asked to sign a disclaimer on arrival as we can’t be held responsible in the unlikely event of any accident.
Cancellation
We’ll email you at least 24 hours beforehand if the event has to be cancelled due to bad weather, in which case you will be refunded.
